In Submit I felt a connection to our main couple but nothing like the deep connection I had after finishing Obey.
Obey delved into their relationship on a much deeper level and it was so brilliantly written.
Raw, Emotional, and Tragic in so many ways.

I understood Francesca's battle so much better, not only with her own feelings but with the outside influences that she felt shaped her choices - her mom - her siblings - her own sense of self-worth. My heart broke for her. She wanted freedom but at what price?
And then Maxim - I think I mentioned when I was discussing him in Submit that he is emotionally stunted and has some very deep seeded anger issues. In Obey, we get to see an even darker side of him and we are granted access to the very brutal truth that created the monster he is today. Like Francesca, I can't hate him for his actions. I know I should but you have to admit he does try and Francesca is a willing participant.
Two broken souls - One perfect match

I think I commented before but just in case
-This is part of a series so yes you need to read the previous book.
-This is a romance between a Sadist and a Masochist - it is bloody and brutal - there are no apologies for who they are
-If S/m is not your thing or you do not normally play in the deep end of the dark romance genre might I suggest you not start with this series.

The Hunter's GameThe Hunter's Game by Logan Fox

A dark and twisted psychological ride!
Clover is a recovering addict and has returned to the institute to take part in the celebration and receive her thirty-day chip. Life has not been quite the joy ride for her since leaving but she has tenaciously held on to her sobriety.
Dr. Hill the founder and the man of the hour has a plan. He believes he has discovered a permanent cure a way to prevent the relapses and he also has selected his first study case.

I'm going to start with the negatives first - Why did Clover have such a negative view on the opening evenings events? Honestly, her unjustified anger was a major turn off for me as a reader. The whole housing situation also left me totally confused, she had supposedly been out for a bit and had only one night at the senders home - There was also a couple other 'moments' that occur during the opening that I had trouble grasping.
Clover comes off as bitchy and annoying I had a real hard time accepting her character. However, she did grow on me eventually. Once she was stripped of that false anger and bravado there was a tough woman who had a deep well of strength and wasn't about to go belly up or kowtow for anyone ever again.
Hunter -Intelligent, charismatic, sexy - He truly believes that he is doing the right thing for the sake of 'saving' others. But as the story progresses he seems to question "mother" (so not telling) and his own experimental procedures. I can't help questioning his motives as well as his sanity. He was that character that I loved to hate.
I don't want to give away any spoilers because this was a bit of a psychedelic journey - both for the characters and for me as a reader.
The story does end a bit abruptly but being that this is the first book in the series I expect that to an extent. It does have an HFN. A few scenes were a bit redundant and dragged and there was some minor typos present.
Overall this was a pretty solid read that definitely messed with my mind and engaged my curiosity
Looking forward to reading book two

Tears of Gold (Tears of...)Tears of Gold by Anna Bloom
"Grief and heartache chase us all, toying with us from within the depths of shadows we can't escape"

Wow - this entire trilogy evoked a roller coaster of emotions in me.
From the rough start in book one to the heartbreak and loss in book two, and finally the emotionally raw conclusion that is book three.
This is NOT a standalone. I am going to assume you have read the first two books in the trilogy so there is no need to go over the characters and plot lines

"Don't lie to me again. If it's not your whole heart, it's a lie" -Abi

I was a bit upset with Eli in this final episode. In my eyes, he broke his promise, a couple of times. No matter how bruised his ego was I did not agree with his decision. I understood it slightly but to me, it just felt like emotional blackmail. I did however like the changes he chose in the last few chapters. Maybe I can see past his errors and forgive him, maybe.

"Sometimes you got to believe"
I think the universe had it out for Faith. Her whole journey was such a whirlwind of heartache and angst blended with a bit of self discovery and forgiveness.
I believe she finally found Faith. but at what a price.
She paid the most IMO for her HEA

So many skeletons are uncovered in this final episode. Some are "holy chit" shocking" others I sort of foresaw coming. A few new friends were made and sadly some old ones were lost.
I will suggest having tissues handy as there are a few scenes that may bring on the ugly cry.
I really enjoyed watching some of the characters blossom and come into their own while others finally got their comeuppance.
A few of my favorite supporting characters need their own stories -- hint hint-- and grandma needs her own memorial service (just a thought)

Hellions: Badlands: Next GenerationHellions: Badlands: Next Generation by Natalie Bennett

Perfectly broken
"We were both made up of jagged edges and empty spaces, tragically perfect for one another." - Nyx
Should it bother me that I get them? That I love what they are together?

I have been reading this series since the first generation (Savages) and I keep asking myself -
How does each episode only get better? And it does.
I will admit I never saw this twist coming - NEVER and now I have so many questions - WTH ??
I figure if you are this far in the series you know what is going on and who the players are so recapping is kind of redundant. If you have not started this series ...
*Note*
This is NOT a standalone - This IS a work of fiction - This is NOT for the squeamish (people it is a post-apocalyptic world; cannibals, murderers, those left do what they have to do to survive) - This is NOT sugar coated so if graphic violence and degenerate humans behavior is not your thing I would suggest you skip a visit to the Badlands.
On a side note, I appreciate greatly that Bennett does not give in to pressure and releases her work before she feels it is ready. I don't mind waiting for perfection

Silver Fox (Bridge to Abingdon #4)Silver Fox by Tatum West

😍

This was a new series for me and I am in 💘 love
Obviously, I feel the need to go back to the beginning of the series, though this was easy to read as a standalone.

Nikki is an absolute delight
Loving - Sweet - Charismatic - and his flair for the creative is borderline genius - One of those characters you can't help but love.
Then we have Fox when his character is first introduced he comes across as no-nonsense and pretty straight to the point personality. As the storyline developed I got the sense he was just tired of the antics and underneath was a very caring and sensual man.

Nikki finds his world in complete upheaval. Someone is stalking him and it's not just an overly aggressive fan. His "friends" don't feel so friendly anymore.
When a night out becomes too much he suddenly finds himself in need of rescue - as it turns out Fox happened to be handy 😎

The story flows smoothly and was easy to follow. Lots of emotional turmoil, some suspense, and a bit of angst all brought together with quite a few smiles and lots of feels.

Praying for Rain (Praying for Rain Trilogy, #1)Praying for Rain by B.B. Easton

What a way to end the world!
I can not wait to see where Easton takes this trilogy!

Intense- Engaging - Emotional
Rain is a survivor
Wes is a user
Together they will use each other to survive the end of days.

I want to start with the way the storyline was crafted.
It flowed in a way that was easy to read and kept me on edge throughout.
The chaos, the anarchy - it all worked
Then the twist - the angst - the reality of it all

The cast - each character added such an impact to the storyline. Even the supporting had a major piece of the puzzle to put into place.

When nothing really matters anymore you tend to ask yourself
Why?
The answer?
Frack 'em!

One of the best reads of 2019
