This is why I love fantasy -
An entertaining read is a bit like watching a movie
You have multiple POV's which has you thinking you know what is about to happen - but really you don't
Lots of edge of your seat action - the kind that has you holding your breath or screaming at the characters in horror that they would make such an absurd choice
All kinds of Magic and Mayhem
Overall - An excellent way to spend an afternoon
Rivers presents us with a well-rounded cast:
The curious young orphan
The older protector
The inquisitive one
The power-hungry evil psycho who needs to be reined in (Okay I am a bit on the fence with him. There was a time he was a good man.)
The misguided one
The evil overlord who manipulates his people into loving him
Just for starters
This is a first in series and one I intend to follow
The world-building is well ... out of this world
Rivers has crafted a colorful universe for her story.
I loved the detail and how easily it transported me as a reader.
Being a first there is a lot of groundwork being presented that sets the tone for the series. In the beginning, it can slow the overall storyline just a touch, but once things get rolling you will want to hang on for one magically fantastic adventure!
This ends on a cliffhanger -
