Knight of the Crescent Moon (Crescent Moon Chronicles Book 1) by L.E. Towne

Title: Knight of the Crescent Moon
Series: Crescent Moon Chronicles Book 1
Author: L.E. Towne
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Release Date: January 1, 2020
Tam must protect her city and open her heart—before time runs out.
Homicide Detective Tam Paradiso really doesn't need more complications, but, she spends her days keeping the streets of Philadelphia safe from gangsters and her nights keeping the innocents safe from supernatural monsters. Not only is she trying not to get taken out by hostiles every night, but she has to hide her monster hunting from the one person she trusts most—her cop partner, Xavier.
The last thing Tam needs are additional complications, but when sixteenth century British playwright Christopher Marlowe appears during one of her hunts, saves her from death by ghoul, and then asks her help to hunt down a strigoi running loose in the city, Tam finds herself embroiled in a more sinister plot than she ever could have imagined.
Between hunting the bloodthirsty monster, sniffing out a mole in the Philadelphia PD, and uncovering her own family secrets, Tam is afraid to fall for the handsome, velvet-caped, time-traveling, stranger—especially since he will be zapped back to his time period in less than a week. Can Tam and Marlowe track down the beast before time runs out? Will Tam face her feelings for Marlowe before it's too late?
It was just another average day at work, until suddenly, it wasn't. The story of my life. Lots of waiting around, doing mundane things like data input and research, grocery shopping and dropping off the dry-cleaning, until something happens and I find myself in a ghoul infested cemetery, covered in tarry blood and a head recently separated from scaly shoulders comes rolling my way. Compliments of a Knight in purple velvet, his sword glinting under a crescent moon.
What a blast!
This is the first in the Crescent Moon Chronicles
What is shaping up to be an exciting mystery/ paranormal / romance

Tam - by day - with her partner X  fights crime on the streets of Philadelphia
At night (or actually just about anytime) she battles the darker unknown evils of the paranormal world
Christopher is a poet - a gentleman - and currently in the wrong era

This was a steady paced read that invokes so many emotions -
One moment I was white-knuckling my reader as we ran the dark streets of Philly chasing monsters - Only to turn the corner and gasp as said monster attempted to divest us of our spine! Let me not forget the gallant and ohhhh so sexy poet who seems to be saving us at every turn.
There is something more to our sexy Mr. Marlowe than meets the eye...

I was easily swept up in the story line. The cast was so vibrant it was like I was there. I could feel the posturing between Mr. Ego and Mr. Poet.
The fear that enveloped Tam when she thought of the danger to those she loved.
The oh so perfect tension that was constant between our two MCs.
There are some areas that are a bit fantastical(?) but overall - this hit the spot for me
