I gave this 5 stars because the world-building and cast this story possessed were ... truly remarkable. On that alone, I would have gone ten stars if possible.
"It's human to be flawed. We can't change our pasts. The only thing that truly matters is what we do with the future" - Aya
Aya ...
Our young and very naive princess.
Elizabeth...
As the story progressed I have to wonder did she know?
The King and Queen...
Why? I know the answer is right there. I'm just not seeing it.
Luken...
He knew - how much of the truth does he know?
The Prince...
Evil- greedy- he knows but how?
The Stranger ...
So many secrets - A friend? Or foe?
Flint...
Childlike in mind- angry - quick to react
Bromley...
The peacekeeper?
These are just some of the players on the board. Each a formidable opponent that leaves the reader asking friend or foe? I am still not sure.
The way Paige set the foundation for this series was spot on for those who enjoy the more complex aspects of a solid fantasy. That strong element of mystery and suspense that always seems to be present just a touch out of the readers grasp.. (reminded me a bit of Piers Anthony in his earlier years)
Paige provided a solid story line that instantly endears us to the main character. We feel her fears and her sense of hopelessness. I urged her on only to slowly realize maybe this wasn't the brightest of ideas.
I don't want to give spoilers
The story line develops slowly providing the reader insight into the different aspects of what truly happened and so many possibilities. The seeds of doubt are definitely sown and I have all kinds of questions and possibilities.
We watch as Aya finds her true self - Again I really do not want to give any spoilers but our pampered princess goes from zero to 60 in no time.
I need the next in series - yesterday!
The copy I read was comp.

The Trouble with Tigers by Gail Koger
I'm dying 😹 my abs definitely got a workout
Hijinks ~ Shenanigans ~ 😂 with Kandi as she dives headfirst into trouble taking Dutch and Dad with her
This is a blend of cozy mystery, outrageously impossible story lines and a wonderfully descriptive cast that is the definition of entertaining
It gives the reader a little bit of everything
excitement, romance, a touch of suspense and a whole lot of
laughter all wrapped up in all the feels
I was a bit shocked when it came to some of our past cast.
I can't believe Harry honestly after everything? And Samson?
After we got glimpses of him in book one I knew he was determined didn't realize to what extent though
And Mom ... I love mom 🤶
I'm excited for the next in series

In the Unlikely Event by L.J. Shen
I'm suffering from emotional whiplash!
I was laughing one moment crying the next.
"That was a minute ago. Its time to move on. Don't let the little things in life bother you, yeah?"
Mal is perfectly imperfect. I think from the moment he winked he stole my heart.
"Find what you love and let it kill you. "
That was Rory all or nothing. She is that friend who to outsiders, seems to have it all together. Who glides through the difficult as easy as the mundane. We know better though.
This was a whole new side of Shen's abilities.
I crushed hard on Mal and his antics. He was so vivid - So wonderfully crafted. Perfectly Imperfect. He complimented Rory's character flawlessly.
And don't even get me started on the chemistry that consistently sparked and ignited between them.
This was a solid story line that invoked passion and vehemence for me as a reader.
Mal and Rory had that instant love that so many dreams of. Both already had plans already in motion though that would never allow for the long term, but what harm was there in indulging - Just a taste.
A quirky cast, engaging story line, all-around entertaining.
The notes were a hoot!
One of the best reads of 2019!

Midnight Hunt by L. Ann
*PRE ORDER*
No, you didn't!
Sooooo no spoilers...
Means all I can do is rant and yell and suggest tissues and a teddy to cuddle ...
And NO throwing your readers just trust me -
You will want to know how this disaster plays out and believe it or not it's not Deacon's fault this time.
If you haven't read this series may I ask why?
It's got all the must-haves in a solid series
Great world building
A strong cast of characters
A solid story line that allows an engaging back story to play out for the long haul while spotlighting individual stories that captivate the reader and provoke all those "feels"
It's a bit like life I guess... though without the shifters and the hunters
Oh and the collectors 😲!

Vargr by Cari Silverwood
What an explosive start to a new series.
Silverwood blends dystopian, steampunk, sci-fi, and genetic engineering into a wildly diverse and entertaining universe that never fails to capture and entertain (and maybe kinda sorta stimulate 😉 )
"Here be more than darkness. The times were...macabre, yet one could not survive by defining in anger and turmoil, in musing of the coming end times, it would destroy you. "
Cyn Is that heroine that we all love. She kicks some serious arse when needs be. She is smart and witty, yet she still radiates a vulnerability that had me wanting to reach in and protect her.
She wakes to the mouth of a Ghoul Lord and decides ... NOPE, not happening. I do not want to give away anything because I am of the firm belief that even the littlest of scenes can be a game-changer for the reader. That being said I can promise you lots of action - A lot of twisted mystery and WTH moments - A bit of angst - some seriously hot smexy scenes and complete and total satisfaction.
I do want to note this ends on a bit of an "Oh He LL No you did not" moment.
I'm a quite upset with Varge at the moment as well as with Rutger - You two are idjiots!
I'm also worried about what the future holds for our little warrior.
The next in series is slated to release in Dec -- I hope Cyn can hold out that long 😔
I see this series being in one of my top favorites for this genre

The Truth About Cowboys by Lisa Renee Jones
Granny has a plan and darn tooting she intends to see it come to fruition!
This was such a fun read.
The cast was colorful with a solid story line that had me laughing and sighing form the opening scene to the closing HEA.
Right out the gate, I was invested in Jessica. Her life was like a domino parade - one hit after another and they just kept coming. Her tenacity though was something else. I think she needed the edge that battling with Jason gave her to keep her mind occupied as well as the comfort that Martha provided to keep her from feeling alone and lost.
Jason is just a stubborn old cowboy! I get life threw him a few curve balls but IMO he is wallowing in a bath of ick that is his own making.
This two definitely provided hours of amusement
And the friction between them - blazing!
