This was a "rip out my heart and stomp on it, then piece it back together" coming of age romance
Remy had me rolling, she was a blast of innocence a douse of intelligence and a whirlwind of humor - Wait till you get to the cake scene, OMG I was dying. It gave me a clearer insight as to how she viewed the world. How she could still see the good first, her views were conformed by her upbringing - nurturing, protected, loving. She wasn't lacking in the brains department kind of innocence just never had to truly see or experience the darker sides of humanity. In many ways, it would be Mikel's saving grace.
Mikel... My heart broke for him. He was such a good soul just drowning in some pretty crappy circumstances. The only thing keeping his head above water was the little slip of a girl who had stolen his heart. Who believed in him even when he didn't believe in himself.
Can Remy's unconditional love save Mikel from himself?
Solid start to the series. The story is easy to read and flows well. There are some slower scenes but that could also be me just wanting everyone to be happy now .. lol
The characters are well defined and you easily feel a part of the excitement. The way the author approached Mikel's "situation" - the gradual slide and unintended spiral - I wanted to hug him and tell him I was there for him.
