🎵EXCERPT: 🎵
This captor didn’t give Domino choices any more than the last ones. Although instead of assaulting him, this cat got his jollies by embarrassing his prisoner in public. It didn’t matter, Domino was twisting a mental knife in his own guts anyway. He’d broken his vow, had used his voice, and he didn’t know what he had left now that he’d lost even that tiny shred of integrity.
Murderer, coward, thief, betrayer, and now vow breaker. Domino wondered what else would be added to the list before he managed to die and that might be a lot harder than he’d planned with Jude around.
The woman came back with a pack of crayons and a sheet of paper with an outline of cartoon characters surrounding the diner logo. She proffered a menu plastered in the same idiotic characters. He shook his head.
“Ok, sweetie, let me know if you want anything,” she said and left them to it.
Domino turned the paper over, chose a blue crayon, and started to write.
“You really like coloring, huh?” Jude said, twisting the knife further.
My father’s dead.
Jude looked everywhere but at what Domino had written. Probably checking for other hunters coming to steal his prize as he’d stolen from the Karnaks. Or maybe he was just being a dick. Domino tapped the table, causing Jude to glance down.
“And how do you know that? Sirens don’t exactly have a good track record with their baby daddies. I bet he hightailed it out of there as soon as he did the deed.”
Domino turned his attention back to the window. There was no point in trying to explain something so complicated with a fucking crayon to a guy who gave zero shits about anything apart from his bank balance.
He hadn’t found his phone or his damn thumb in the van. The entire top joint had been removed. The area was red, raw, and tender, but it’d healed over thanks to the healing seawater.
Which I never should have left. I’m such a fucking coward.
Right now, it could’ve all been over. No more stares, no more anxiety or pain. No more cocky, fucking irritating cat shifter brightening up the world one quip at a time.
Jude’s meal arrived. The juicy lump of meat nearly overflowed the plate. The cat shifter tucked in with relish.
Jude groaned in delight at the first mouthful. “So damn good, you sure you don’t want some?”
Domino’s belly knotted. It could have been hunger or revulsion making it squirm, but whatever it was, he wanted out of here.
“Suit yourself.” Jude put another huge bite into his mouth. Domino wouldn’t have been surprised if the shifter picked the meat up in his hands and just gnawed on it.
“Sorry if this is bothering you, but we really can’t risk not being together, and I have to eat. I’ve got a very fast metabolism, comes with being a cat shifter. We need meat regularly.”
Thank you for sharing that piece of fascinating trivia. . Mental and physical exhaustion dragged at Domino until he wondered if he’d actually dissolve into the seat. Should’ve stayed in the damn tank. Resting his head on the window, he closed his eyes and listened to the humans chatting around him. Sleep called, but he couldn’t, not here. One word, one shout because of a bad dream, and everyone within earshot could die.
The shifter only seemed to have two modes, bloody, callous murder or irreverent banter. It must be nice not to care, not to worry. It was why he’d spent so much time at Blaze, but even there, he could never fully forget.
“Can I get you boys, anything else?” Domino sank down a little further at the woman’s voice. Her curiosity, her pity, pecked at him, wanting to know his dirty secrets.
“I could do with a takeout box. Any kind of meat, doesn’t matter what, if you’ve got anything ready?”
“Just meat, no bread or salad?”
“Yep, I’m an all protein kind of guy.”
The server tutted. “Those faddy diets won’t do you any good in the long run.”
Jude spread his hands. “Do I look like I’m suffering?”
She gave him a long slow appraisal, then leaned forward, exposing her cleavage. “No, you certainly don’t. I’ve got a break in a little while if you–”
Jude gave her a grin that would melt the underwear of anyone remotely interested in cock and slung his arm around Domino’s shoulders. Every muscle tensed, but Domino managed to stay still. “Sorry, but I don’t play on your team.”
Her eyes went wide as she glanced between them. “But he’s…” she paused, wrinkling her nose.
“Sexy when he’s playing at being a kid? Yeah, I know. Daddies and littles, right? Got to love the kink.”
What the living fuck? .
Jude gave him a grin. “Aw, don’t get all salty on me, my little guppy, not unless you want a spanking?”
🎵ABOUT THE AUTHOR: 🎵
Emma is the #1 Amazon Bestselling Author of series such as Lies, Paint, and Incubus.
Born in Hungry Bottom as an unexpected twin, Emma was destined to be a little different. She blames her rebellious muse (who looks like Chris from the Paint Series) for the erotic aspects tickling the angst, and the humor cuddling up with the erotic. No matter the genre, you can expect different characters, dark themes, steamin’ sex, laughs, and a HEA or HFN.
When not continuing her obsessive affairs with book boyfriends, she herds Birman cats and sons in Winnie The Pooh’s Hundred Acre Wood. Both groups argue that the other is too large, and her long-suffering husband has given up counting.
She always answers questions and comments from readers, so get in touch for a chat.
Thanks so much for sharing, I'm glad you had fun with Domino and Jude!
