Excerpt 

I kneel and hang my head and wait. I have to. I want to. There’s an elation in my chest, as though I’m about to meet a secret beloved I’m only now remembering. My attention draws upward, compelled to the stunning creature. I couldn’t look away if my life depended on it, but I avoid meeting his dark gaze. 

With unearthly grace, the vampire saunters toward me, his eyes riveted to my face. The closer he comes, the more the battle slips into the background. It could be only the two of us here in the steelworks. Weapons fly around him—bolts and swords whistle through the air, heading for his chest, but stop midflight before they can meet their target and clatter to the concrete. He doesn’t spare them a glance.

The nearer he stalks, the harder my heart pounds. My breath comes in shallow puffs. Cold sweat soaks my T-shirt. My nails puncture the soft flesh of my palms. I feel defenseless. 

The prince stands in front of me, close enough to touch, a towering demigod, his immense wings creating a shadowed cavern.

I force my eyes down, fixing them on a patch of crimson blood painted across the concrete. I resist a baffling urge to lean and rest my head against his hip.

Strong, elegant fingers cup my chin to lift my face. I tense, my stomach twisting with panic. I’m certain that once I meet those black eyes, it’s over. His fingers burn hot against my chin. The touch tingles my skin like champagne. I melt into his hand and look up, finding two pools of darkest night. My resistance vanishes.

Master. The word hangs in my mind. 

I will never let it leave my lips.

As unsure as I am about who I can trust

And what the prince and the commander are hiding

I can't imagine how confused and alone Michael must feel

His day started like any other but ended with him feeling lost and alone in a world he did not know existed

Hated and feared for things beyond his ability to control but his to account for none the less

And drawn to two very different men

Both who call to him

Both of whom have ulterior motives

I read this in one sitting -

Action-packed from the first scene to the last

Plenty of breadcrumb trails that, kept me flipping the pages

Suspense in spades - I still am trying to unravel all the clues

A romance that lies just beneath the surface - like a taunt rope - the slightest pressure bound to make it snap

The world-building is five stars.

We are given glimpses of the different planes(?) as well as species (fairy, witches, vamps, shifters, and more) along with a bit of their background. More than enough to form a solid foundation

And the cast

Holy Hades!

I was loathing certain characters in one scene then questioning the why of my feelings the next - Am I wrong? Are the facts twisted so I see what I hope to see?

I truly don't know for sure who I trust

Except for a certain family, I doubt I will ever like any of them

A solid five start to the series

I'm excited to see what happens next

The prized possession you value above all others… If I was running from a burning building, I’d grab my phone. Or my laptop, I suppose. Not because I prize them, exactly, but because I can access all my writing from either. There are no possessions more important to me because everything else can be replaced, but my years of hard work can’t.

The film you can watch time and time again… Groundhog Day. I know all the words, and yet, I laugh every time, and it never fails to leave me thinking about the deep stuff.

Your early recollections of writing fiction... When I was 8 yrs old, I wrote a fantasy story and read it to my mum. That was my the first forey into fiction.

The piece of wisdom you would pass onto a child… If you want love, then give love. If you want gratitude, then be thankful. If you want to be heard, then listen. Because what you give, you get, and our world is exactly the shape we make it.

Dark Flame is the first Book in the Flame-Born series. A romping urban fantasy with an epic feel, and a hot, enemies to lovers romance. The story follows the same protagonist as he tries to find a home, and himself, in a confusing and unforgiving supernatural underworld, all while under the pressures of a dark destiny he never asked for.

The series is peopled by many of the classic species: shifters, vampires, werewolves, Fae, as well as witches and mages. I’ve purposely stuck with the classic tropes of the genre, but tried to give them a fresh twist and a magic system with a difference. 

My intention was to write the type of book I like to read. A full-on fantasy story with a hot, erotic romance, where both the world-building and the romance have been given equal weight. It was tougher than I expected. I suppose only the readers can tell me if I’ve actually pulled it off.
