From the USA Today best-selling author of The Summer House comes a story about lost loves, chasing dreams, and the people who show up when they're needed the most. Hannah Townsend has the perfect job at a New York magazine, a small but elegant apartment in the Upper West Side, and a successful beau named Miles Monahan. This year, she’s leaving the icy city sludge for sunshine! She’s got tickets for two to Barbados, and she’s meeting Miles at the airport for a week of cocktails, sandy beaches, and the music of steel drums. But her life is turned upside down in the span of that one morning. Hannah is rocked by the news that her beloved grandmother is very sick, and Hannah needs to come home to her small Tennessee town right away to be with her family and help run her gran’s dilapidated flower shop. If that isn’t enough to deal with, she discovers her boyfriend is seeing someone else. On her birthday, she finds herself packed into a car on a ride-share to her hometown of Franklin, Tennessee. When everything seems to be going wrong, it’s the kindness of a handsome man from Hannah’s past named Liam McGuire that might just save her. But a new development that threatens Gran’s shop and secrets surrounding Liam could alter both their lives forever.

Q&A with Author Jenny Hale
  1. Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    1. Yes. All my other titles are audiobooks, so I knew I would have an audiobook for this one.
  2. How did you select your narrator?
    1. I found her on Twitter! She followed Harpeth Road Press, my publishing imprint, and I loved her voice. You just never know where you’ll meet people in the business...
  3. Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    1. The blue bungalow on the cover that belongs to the grandmother in my story is a real house in town near where I live.
  4. How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for writing?
    1. I actually wrote The Memory Keeper at the same time that I wrote my Christmas novel Christmas at Fireside Cabins, so burnout was real! I found that getting outside in nature helped me to recharge my batteries. It was in the very middle of the Covid pandemic and we were limited as to places to go, so my husband would pile the whole family in the car and drive us around the countryside so I could get out and take photos.
  5. If you had the power to time travel, would you use it? If yes, when and where would you go?
    1. I’d go back to the author-me at the very beginning of my journey and tell her that everything ends up okay, so don’t worry so much.
  6. How did you celebrate after finishing this novel?
    1. I actually might turn in the final draft of a novel on a Tuesday and then begin writing my next book on that Wednesday. I don’t celebrate until publication day when I usually have a nice dinner out with my husband and some bubbly.
  7. What gets you out of a writing slump? Visiting new places and listening to music. What about a reading slump?
    1. Just jumping into a new book and pushing ahead with it--before long I’m lost in the story.
  8. In your opinion, which do you enjoy writing more, a stand-alone novel or a series?
    1. I actually prefer writing a stand-alone because I don’t have to remember all the minute details of the story for the next one. When I write, I basically download the story from my brain and by the time it comes out in book form, I’ve moved on to the next idea. I have written one companion series--two books: Summer at Firefly Beach and The House on Firefly Beach.
  9. What bits of advice would you give to aspiring authors?
    1. Study your favorite authors. Take notes on how they write character arcs and conflict. How many acts are in their books--3? 5? Where is the climax of the story?
  10. What’s next for you?
    1. I’m currently running my brand new romantic fiction publishing imprint Harpeth Road Press and I have more books on the way!
