Descension is the first book in the Mystic series.
Introducing us to the various players and what their roles may be - I say "may be" because for some I felt we are given just enough background/info to make me question if they would be friend or foe - No! I am not telling
We get a bit of history and backstory - a whole lot of details (this was my biggest pet peeve here)
And a slightly teary look at Layla's parents and what happened there
Setting a solid foundation for the series
The overall story is solid - a sweet budding romance - the seemingly unescapable Villian - the heartbreaking past - the fight for a brighter future
It was a bit slow-paced in the beginning though it did pick up towards the later part. A lot of scene setting, little details here and there - IMO - a bit too much at times.
I will be reading the second book because, despite the info overload, I want to know what happens next - darn it!
