Can you, for those who don't know you already, tell something about yourself and how you became an author?
From the time I was old enough to pick up a pen and write a sentence, I've loved to write. I spent my youth writing countless stories, poems, and letters to friends and family. I'm in love with the written word; however, somewhere along the way that was lost in this thing called life. Marriage, job, kids, and other responsibilities became my priority and I stopped writing. That all changed during the pandemic. I celebrated my 48th birthday at home that August and realized I wasn't getting any younger. It was then I decided to write a book. Now I have written three!
What is something unique/quirky about you?
I won't drink out of anything made of glass. I can only drink out of a plastic cup. Oddly enough, glass smells "funny" to me. Unique, I know!
Tell us something really interesting that's happened to you!
For the past seven years, I have worked side-by-side with investigators on a cold case in Arkansas. It's been an amazing experience and it's what I write about in my debut book, The Girl I Never Knew.
What are some of your pet peeves?
Poor table manner and the sound of plastic rattling. It's unnerving!
Where were you born/grew up at?
I was born and raised in a small farming community in Southwest Oklahoma. The town, Rocky, Oklahoma, consists of only a few hundred people.
If you knew you'd die tomorrow, how would you spend your last day?
I would spend my last day with my family and close friends. My circle is small, but incredibly precious to me. I would want them to know just how much I love them and how thankful I am they are in my life.
Who is your hero and why?
My husband is my hero. He's a completely self-made man that has faced some really painful and impossible odds in his life. Despite his personal trials, he remains loving, steadfast and kind. He's my rock and my hero.
What kind of world ruler would you be?
Firm, but fair. Strong, but caring. Determined and dedicated.
What are you passionate about these days?
The unsolved 1994 murder of 19-year-old Melissa Witt. She deserves justice and I am determined to get it.
What do you do to unwind and relax?
I read, watch movies, and spend time gardening.
How to find time to write as a parent?
That's a tough one! My best writing happens when the kids are at school or in bed. I have 7 kids, five that are still school age, so it's definitely tough to find time to write.
Describe yourself in 5 words or less!
Fearless, fierce, determined, dynamic, faithful.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Literally from the moment I could pick up a pen and write a sentence -- so elementary school. Writing is something that makes me feel alive. It's a passion. I believe I was born to write.
Do you have a favorite movie?
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie?
Either of them could be made into a movie, but I think my book, Strangled, would be a fantastic thriller!
As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
A lioness because she represents strength and passion. A lioness is a fierce defender and when in a group, she becomes a creative and strategic force to be reckoned with, acting as one to change the world around them.
