Excerpt 1

You are powerful beyond measure. You have the power every moment and every hour to choose what goes into your body, whether it be food, social media, or thoughts of self-loathing or self- love. When a craving comes up that does not serve you, you have the power to be in control of it. Just for this hour, this moment, say no. Then do it again the next hour and the next. If you still want to eat that cupcake, go ahead and eat it. But odds are the craving has passed, or the won’t power has increased.
You have the power at this moment and in this hour. It is just that simple. A healthy lifestyle can become overwhelming when you look at the big picture, particularly if you have a lot of weight to release or are just beginning an exercise program. If you get winded running on the treadmill and think to yourself, I hate this and have to do it every day, you are already sabotaging yourself for the future. You only have to run on the treadmill today. You only need to con- centrate on the workout you are doing right now, not later today or tomorrow. The only exercise you have to do is the one you are doing right now.

Excerpt 2
Regularly eating junk food and fast food in childhood makes it harder to make healthy choices later in life. You are basically assisting your child with food addiction, obesity, and chronic health issues. Besides those glaringly obvious reasons, research also shows eating foods that contain a lot of sugar, fat, and salt leads to low self-es- teem, asthma, eczema, hyperactivity, constipation, poor academics— including lower math and reading skills—less energy, and depression.
Why are we doing this to our children? We are shaping our youths’ destiny with illness, obesity, and premature death. Is that the legacy you want to leave?
“Clean your plate!” Did you hear that growing up? Do you tell your kids that while sitting at the kitchen table? This is a toxic trait that has long been instilled in most of us from a very early age. What we are really saying to a small child is...do not listen to your body, ignore the sensations in your stomach, or do not trust your inner knowing that you are full or not hungry in the first place. Eat, eat, eat, no matter what. Eat it if you do not like it. We are teaching kids to disconnect from their bodies and emotions.
We soothe crying children with a snack, or bake cookies for our child when they had a bad day at school. We go get ice cream for them when they win or lose a sporting event. We are ingraining food so deeply into our emotions we can no longer separate true hunger and craving cues.
Then as adults, we wonder why we eat until we are stuffed and can no longer move. We question why eating a carton of ice cream eases our anxiety after a difficult conversation when most of us were raised to associate food with comfort.

Pen or typewriter or computer?

Computer. My first draft of the book was penned. I loved the freedom of writing down my ideas and thoughts freely. That is until the day I went back to read it, it was a jumbled mess! My handwriting was illegible in sections and it was difficult to follow. I sat down to make sense of it on my computer, and it was much easier and cohesive. The computer makes my writing much easier and comprehensible for the reader.

What made you want to become an author ?

During the pandemic of 2020, I had extra time on my hands as many of us did. All of our lives changed so quickly, with stores, gyms, restaurants, and theaters all closed, it was a time to look inward and reflect. I had done a lot of inner work and processes to assist me and others in a healthy journey and lifestyle. Focusing on mindset and self care, I found a solution for weightloss and wellness. I decided the best way to share my message and assist others that may be struggling with their health as I was, was to write a book.

If your book had a candle, what scent would it be?

Fruit Slices. A fresh citrus scent, that is crisp and clean. With notes of lemon, grapefruit and bergamot. With each inhale of the candle, your senses are refreshed and hope renewed.

What are you passionate about these days?

My passion is mindset, self care and loving oneself. My readers and clients that struggle with wellness and weightloss had one thing in common, most didn’t love themselves, or put themselves first. Always pouring from an empty cup and putting their needs last. Many self sabotage, talk down on themselves and don’t see their true self. I want everyone to feel confident and beautiful. Our differences are what makes us shine. Along with nutrition and weight loss, mindset is a non negotiable for a healthy routine. My passion is to assist everyone reading my book or following me on instagram to find self love and be proud of the gorgeous person they are!

How to find time to write as a parent?

It is very challenging! Although my kids are older now, I work from home. Our house is very small and my “office” is set up at the kitchen table. This means everyone in my home assumes I am always available. I do not ordinarily mind, usually someone wants to chat, or show me something funny on tiktok. A break here and there to laugh and enjoy their company is refreshing and needed. Although I often find it difficult while I am writing to pause, I lose my train of thought easily. I’ll find myself on a roll with ideas flowing right onto the keyboard. It can be highly frustrating to be interrupted or asked the famous “Hey Mom, what's for dinner?” I have found waking up earlier and getting my writing done ahead of the hustle of the family in the afternoon and evening hours is a successful approach for me.

What do you do to unwind and relax?

I love water. I grew up swimming and I still really enjoy it. To relax I savor soaking in hot tubs and hot baths. I am lucky enough to live near several natural hot springs. Year round I make a genuine effort as part of my self care routine to spend time at the hot springs. I thoroughly relax and feel refreshed when soaking. I also love my bed and easily unwind snuggling up with my blanket and dogs streaming a rom-com.

What can we expect from you in the future?

I am currently working on my next book. It too has a strong focus on health, diet and wellness, but is centered around the mindset of aging. While writing The One Day Diet, I researched age and the mindset of thinking we are “too old.” I was fascinated by the studies of aging, the ageist society we live in, and how mindset affects aging. I am so excited to share it, as I think there is so much we can learn from it. You will find I do have a dedicated chapter in The One Day Diet that begins the conversation about the perspective of mindset in age

After struggling with weight and diet mentality for years, Wendy found the answer, taking her health journey one day at a time.
Wendy created The One Day Diet to assist others who are tired of diet mentality like she was. In addition to being an author, Wendy is a certified yoga and reiki instructor, breath and mindset coach and master esthetician. Wendy truly cares and is cheering you on during your weight loss journey
