#NewRelease #KU ~ His First Lady (Capitol Hill Series #1) by Beth Fred

Title: His First Lady
Series:  Capitol Hill Series
Author: Beth Fred
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: June 18, 2019 Publisher: Limitless Publishing
My campaign manager says no one wants a bachelor in the White House and this election is drawing near. The solution? To hold a cattle call, and what’s up for auction? Me.

Lucky for me I cross paths with Mandy Buchanan—a feisty blonde who isn’t afraid to call me a jerk to my face. But she’s in quite the predicament herself. Mandy needs money since her dad refuses to pay for a frivolous degree. So, we strike a bargain.
I get a wife, and she gets her degree.
The deal was simple. No complications. No problems.
While Mandy pretends to be the perfect First Lady, I start noticing her in a way that has nothing to do with politics or practicality. Those curves. Her eyes. The way her face lights up when she talks about her work. She’s beautiful.
Suddenly she’s no longer just a pawn to help me get into the White House. She’s more than that, and I no longer want to play pretend. I want her to be mine in every way.
Now I just need to convince her that our sham marriage might just be the real deal.

These two have got to have the most screwed up complicated marriage contract in the history of contracts!
Erik is looking for a win to the White House and Evan, his campaign manager, has a plan that will guarantee he gets there.
Mandy is looking for a little bit of finance to finish her degree and possibly a story.
Erik didn't like Evans's plan to start with but when fate literally drops the feisty Mandy into his arms.  He can't resist her charm nor the easy way she challenges him.
Erik meet Mandy. Mandy meet Erik.
World meet a calamity waiting to happen.

Mandy is seeking her degree in basket weaving and tree hugging. Don't knock it till you try it. She is smart as a whip and staunch in her beliefs. She does tend to do a lot of open mouths insert foot (re)action and can also be a tad dramatic? Sensitive? Spoiled? There are a few adjectives I can confidently use for her.
In a bit of a tissy, she manages to make quite a mess of things. When the dust clears from her latest life choice she exposes the true diamond she is.
A bit unpolished, but to Erik, priceless.

Erik comes across as very conservative and set in his ways. IMO he is truly a romantic at heart and longs for the white picket fence dream. He may not be the best at expressing this though. Erik tends to come off a bit on the misogynistic side, not his intentions but the words he speaks are not properly conveying his beliefs.  With the election looming and the female population not likely to help him into the white house at all, he capitulates to Evans plan.

The opposing energy between these two was cosmic.
The story was easy to follow.  I'm not big on politics but Fred found a way to make it engaging, thoughtful and at times a bit amusing.
The cast was fun and quite enchanting. The story had just the right touch of humor mixed with the complications of mixed communication to keep me entertained.
Loved Kristin - my new book bff.

Meet Beth Fred! That's me! I'm a full time ELF keeper and part time writer/blogger/writing instructor. I like my tea hot, my romance sweet, and my heroes chivalrous. Heroes hold open doors, refer to you as ma'am, make promises they keep, and aren't afraid to profess their undying love. It's not breakfast if there aren't carbs(at least, not in the South). Fajitas, carnitas, and churros are just few of my favorite things. Bet you can't guess where I'm from ;)
