Sheridan Hendley Mystery Series by Christa Nardi ➱ Series Tour with Giveaway

A New Place, Another Murder
A Sheridan Hendley Mystery Book 1
by Christa Nardi
Genre: Cozy Mystery

Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for.
Pretty much settled into her new home in Appomattox with Brett and his daughter, Sheridan longs for something to keep her busy. That is, until Maddie and her new friend are framed for theft and murder. Not quite the distraction she had hoped for, but she’ll turn over every rock to prove their innocence. In the process, she learns about the powerful Buchanan family and the history of the local community. Will the truth come out before the person calling the shots takes Sheridan and Maddie out of the picture?

Dogs and More Dogs, Another Murder
A Sheridan Hendley Mystery Book 2

An abandoned house, an abundance of dogs. And a dead body or two.

Sheridan Hendley’s volunteer position at Pets and Paws takes a new turn when more than twenty malnourished dogs are found at a rundown house on the outskirts of town. When the body of an elderly woman is found amidst mountains of clutter in the house, a search of the property leads to startling revelations. And another body. While Herman Stoneham’s death is deemed natural causes, his wife’s is not. Where did all the dogs come from and who’s responsible for Justine’s untimely death? Are the two connected? With dogs and murder at stake, Sheridan can't help but get involved in the investigation.

Old Friends and New, Another Murder
A Sheridan Hendley Mystery Book 3

A touch of nostalgia, a murder, and good friends.
When a former colleague is implicated in his neighbor’s demise, Sheridan Hendley returns to Cold Creek to prove his innocence. Annoying as Max can be, she can’t imagine the quirky professor is capable of murder. Unfortunately, not everyone shares her opinion. Of course, it doesn’t help that Max threatened his neighbor in a public place soon before the man was murdered. Or that the victim’s drug shipments had a habit of turning up on Max’s doorstep.

What You’d Find in my Personal Library

Given a choice of sleeping or reading, reading often wins out and always has. I never stayed up all night to study for an exam, but I’ve sacrificed sleep to finish a book. Just one more chapter – hidden under the covers with a flashlight in my teens – many times over the years. Even now, I have more bookshelves in my house than most people I know and well over 2000 on my kindle. Most often, from the time I was a teen to now (oh, so many years later), I read mysteries and I’m driven to figure out who-dun-it.

I may have read others, but my favorites growing up were all the Nancy Drews – the original ones, not the updated ones.  I have a full set of the them through # 54.  Not surprisingly, I also read all the Dana Girls and have many of them as well and even the Hardy Boys. As I got older, I expanded my reading to include Victoria Holt, Daphne duMaurier, and many others. Another 10+ years later, add Evanovich, Coban, Kellerman, Brown, Grafton, Gardner and oh, so many others.

Over the years, I became more aware of the variations of mystery books – I found I wasn’t a fan of thrillers or gore. I’m not a fan of zombie mysteries; I can take or leave the paranormal twist though I recently read two in a dream walker series that caught my attention. I like police procedurals, courtroom and legal twists, romantic suspense, and humorous mysteries. I like cozy mysteries with the small town feel, minimum graphic violence or sex. I especially like mysteries with strong (intelligent) female sleuths. It was not a stretch that I would choose to write mysteries with a strong female protagonist.

What else would you see on my bookshelves/kindle? Sometimes, I enjoy a good romance, sappy, but not erotica. I prefer to let my imagination fill in the details. When not reading mysteries, I tend toward scifi/fantasy. I got hooked with Tolkien, Heinlein, and Azimov, moved on to Terry Brooks, Mercedes Lackey, Piers Anthony, and JKRowling. I’d argue there is a touch of mystery in all of these, albeit not a murder. One thing about scifi/fantasy, there tends to be a message related to social issues – as a psychologist, that resonates with me and I find myself incorporating social issues from sexual harassment to domestic violence in my novels.
