Broken Halo (Forgotten Legacy, #5)Broken Halo by L. Ann
Description:
Gabe Mercer
Singer, Rockstar, Broken
He was my everything, my childhood love,
But he lied to me, kept secrets and broke my trust.
So I walked away, and took control of my life.
I thought I was happy without him, I was happy without him.
But then he crashed back into my orbit and his pull is just as strong as ever.
Only, this time, he’s made it clear we’re done and he wants nothing to do with me.
Harper Jackson
Frosty, Unimpressed, Confident
She was my always and forever,
Until she decided she was done.
It turns out my love wasn’t enough. I wasn’t enough,
And she turned her back on us and walked away
She took my heart with her, and now only the self-destructive rock star remains.
But one small accident puts us back on a collision course and I’m not sure I will survive the crash.
Our Thoughts 💭:
“I dunno, man. There are people out there. Seems like a wild thing to do.”
A bit sad to say goodbye but at the same time I felt content with the closure and excited for their futures
I'll always be a little angry at Harper
Seth will always be my favorite dark soul
Gabe will always be that tarnished gold coin
Dex my slightly burnt marshmallow man
and Luca?
Will always be my lost boy
Someday I hope to check back in see how everyone is doing
Maybe catch up on those little surprises at the end??
This was an emotional journey from the first chord to curtain call
We loved - We lost
We gained new memories and learned to live with the old ones
We found new strengths and conquered old weaknesses
Thanks for letting me share with you
Allowing me to be a part of your family
XOXO

Blood of the Pack (Dark Ink Tattoo #1)Blood of the Pack by Cassie Alexander
Description:
Angela, Dark Ink Tattoo’s owner, has a secret – she’s a werewolf who used to run with the Pack, a dangerous drug-dealing motorcycle gang that services Vegas’s seedier side. She’s been free for the past seven years, ever since her ex-boyfriend (and Pack leader) Gray went to prison – but when the Pack starts threatening her shop and son she realizes she’s on borrowed time.
Dark Ink’s best artist refuses to show up before sundown – because he’s a vampire. Vegas is the perfect place for Jack – it’s an endless buffet of strangers to bleed. The only thing that haunts Jack more than his hunger is Angela.
Welcome to Dark Ink Tattoo, Las Vegas’s premier 24/7 tattoo studio, where needles aren’t the only things that bite….
Our Thoughts 💭:
This went too quickly!! And I have all kinds of questions
I feel like I went down a rabbit hole 🕳 a bit with this one
The author set the tone for the series pretty quickly laying a solid foundation but only providing the reader enough to craft the frame - A bit like an appetizer and the first course lol
This takes place in modern times Vegas our consists of:
Jack our quite young/turned in the last century (or so it seemed to me) vampire who comes across as extremely laid-back and a bit of an "indulger" though truly he is anything but
Angela, his boss, his secret crush, and a werewolf who has all kinds of secrets hiding in her closet
Grey, Angela's ex-boyfriend and the leader of the local biker gang - An all around not so nice guy who is supposedly spending life in prison
And Mark, her current crush - who like Angela has secrets that I did not see coming (don't want to give spoilers)
Let me not forget the wonderful supporting characters that brought all kinds of quirks to the story
The story -
Grey wants Angela back and he will use dirty tactics to acquire her
Angela wants a "normal" life but with each new letter she finds things spiraling out of control
Mark wants Angela and he believes he can protect her
And Jack?
Jack wants a lot of things
Blood of the pack is full of action and tidbits of suspense as well as some seriously volcanic level "up close and personal scenes" - I think Jack might be part incubus lol
This ends on a to be continued

Take MeTake Me by C.D. Reiss
Description:
A dark and twisted mafia romance from New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss.
Mafia King, Dario Lucari spent years planning his revenge. Today, he executes it.
Kidnapped on my wedding day.
Held by a monster who wants vengeance on my father.
Married to him against my will.
Suddenly thrust into a world of betrayal, lies and deviance, all I have to do to escape is destroy everything I’ve ever loved, and love the man I must destroy.
***
This dark mafia romance contains intense scenes and backstories that may make some readers feel stuff they don't want to feel.
Our Thoughts 💭:
This ends on a whirlwind of fubar proportions
One missing
Another found - who I'm pretty sure just gummed up the plan
One thinking they know best -
One trying to hold all the pieces together
To many greenhouses - at the same time not enough
And sitting heartbroken and betrayed in the middle of this mess?
Sarah
Dario wanted revenge
Sarah was the perfect pawn a tool to advance his agenda,
An easy move for him or so he believed
He was not prepared for the ferocious little thing she turned out to be
It took a bit for me to engage with the characters but once the pieces began clicking into place and I could see more of the picture
I was all in
Dario comes across as uncaring and a bit manipulative? lol Let's just say he knows how or what to play to get the results he wants
Sarah despite her brainwashing (this is revealed as the story progresses and wow not something I foresaw) is pretty strong, determined, stubborn, and curious. Very dangerous traits when you are a victim of kidnapping but she makes things work. She wavers a bit but I liked her.
I do have some questions but I'm sure the answers will come as the series moves forward
Like I previously mentioned it did take me a couple of chapters to fully engage but as the story progressed it developed that sweet spot that kept me engaged and wanting more
This has some moments of "questionable" actions so if you have limits you might want to pass

Our Thoughts 💭:
I suggest raiding the couches, the cookie jar, your kids' college funds 🙃 Because once you are done with Dragon Unbound you will want this whole series
This is a new series for me as well as author - yeah I don't know how I missed this either
This was a complete story with all the magic and adventure I look for in my paranormal romances.
I was left wanting more time with these characters
More time in this universe (wonderful world-building)
Dragons, Fae, Valkyrie, magical creatures, evil rulers, lost cities, found families, and more
This is what I love about the dark nights' novellas
A chance to dip your toes into another realm
Taste a new flavor of fiction
And this one definitely hit all the marks

Her First Mistake: A Heart-Pounding Crime Thriller: A Detective Nina Viken NovelHer First Mistake: A Heart-Pounding Crime Thriller: A Detective Nina Viken Novel by Eve Parrish
Description:
Her First Mistake is a serial killer thriller with a female lead and mysterious love interests.
Detective Nina Viken is no stranger to the ominous clues serial killers leave with their discarded victims.
It’s a typical method used to taunt and torture the authorities who are ruthlessly hunting them down.
This time though, everything seems a little too close to home.
When Nina gets a call that a dead body is being pulled from the Hollow Pointe Ravine, intuition tells her she’s going to have her work cut out for her. Upon arriving at the crime scene, she sees various photographs scattered along the ground. The photos feature completely nude women–bound, shackled, bloody and bruised.
At first it looks like it’s just another sick and twisted murderer on the loose...
But upon examining the body, Nina sees the signature of one of the East Coast’s most notorious serial killers–The Saxon County Slayer.
As if the pressure of finding him before he kills again wasn’t enough, Nina gets a call from her father–a convicted murder himself–saying he knows the identity of the infamous serial killer.
With little evidence to point her in any other direction, Nina begins to look into her father’s claims.
Regardless of whether her father is telling the truth or not...
The Saxon County Slayer is back.
And this time, he has a vendetta against Nina.
A vendetta that he will stop at nothing to satisfy.
Our Thoughts 💭:
Pull out your notepad and put on your thinking cap -
This well-woven thriller will have you leaping forward believing you have all the pieces -
Then backtracking because "Dang, how did I miss that?"
Or that could just be me 🤷‍♀️
Either way, this was an edge of your seat, thrill a page read
Packed with mystery, some "cop humor", lots of twists, suspense, angst...
An all-around must-read for those who the thrill of the chase

Slumbering Ember (The Vargr, #1)Slumbering Ember by Meraki P. Lyhne
Description:
The belief in the old Norse gods may have been suppressed by Christianity, but that doesn’t mean the races of old didn’t survive. Like the Vargr wolves.
All Matt knows of his dad is that he was Danish and that he’d died in a motorcycle accident ten years earlier.
When Matt’s sixteen and a half, his mother declares it important that he at least knows the other half of his heritage, so she sends him from the States to Denmark as an exchange student for a year.
Matt’s not overly excited. Matt’s a loner who doesn’t connect with people. Going to a foreign country was never a part of his plans, but he’d do it for her. He’d go to where she’d loved the only man in her life. The love that gave her Matt.
Everything he’s heard from his mom and read about Denmark and the area he’s going to live in did not prepare him for what he finds, though—a heritage that has an old Norse god on the family tree.
Our Thoughts 💭:
This is a shifter, coming of age coming novel that touches on a lot of different topics quite well
We journey with our young hero as he not only uncovers his "roots" but also as he comes to terms with who and what he is
I found myself going from completely engaged flipping pages like a madwoman to sort of surfing through the pages
It had a sort of Rollercoaster tempo to it IMO
A lot of it for me felt repetitive or just too much unnecessary description
I enjoyed the universe the author created - all the lore and myth
The characters were well-crafted they felt approachable(?)
Not really relatable because I'm not a shifter lol
I felt some areas were overly explored(?) again this goes back to the feeling of too many minute details. Also, some sections felt more like the author driving home her opinions than making it about the characters experiences or storyline
Overall it was a solid read that I enjoyed I am looking forward to the next in the series as I believe this was a lot of foundation building and character introduction that won't be necessary for book two
